Three things I
learn from this survey that could help me with my current job are my excellent
extroversion facet, and I need to improve my leadership skills because
according to the report, I am a passive leader. The third thing I learned is that
I have low organization skills. After reading the criteria on these specific
qualities, I am able to agree with low organizational skills as I have noticed
my terrible organizational skills, especially in my workroom. I believe that
improving on being open and increasing cooperation between myself and coworkers
will help me further my leadership skill. I am delighted that my sociability,
self-esteem, and social boldness are all very high; these results came as a
surprise to me because I imagine myself to be an individual with low
self-esteem.
These results
increase my confidence, in the future, I will utilize the amazing qualities I
have and apply them where necessary. I, however, do not agree that I am a passive
leader because according to the report; passive leaders stay inactive until things
go wrong. I believe a passive leader came about when there are no clear goals or problems, and if there is limited to no communication between the leader
and the followers. I am an individual with high communication skills, I like
for my group to know where I am at, and I try to guide and instigate
understanding among members of the group. Another reason that I disagree with
the passive leader attribute is that in my report, I have a high propensity
for Leader Consideration which reflects the extent to which the leader is
likely to engage in building relationships with subordinates as an integral
part of their approach to management. So, the two skills contradict each other
for the reason that if I am a passive leader, then I should have low leadership
consideration.
Sheldon Chumir is
a hospital in downtown Calgary and I work in the department called Elbow River
Healing Lodge Clinic which is on the seventh floor of the hospital. The clinic
offers primary care services like family-focused and prenatal care,
immunization, street outreach, community liaison, social resource referral,
advocacy, etc. It is apparent from the list mentioned that the clinic is a
social outreach for many people, specifically First Nations, Metis, and Inuit
people. Specialist services that the clinic offers are nutrition, child oral
health, neurology, and others.
In the report, my
traditional score is quite higher than the overall traditional value that
Sheldon Chumir culture undertakes. The rest of my workplace values are
equivalent to Sheldon Chumir’s culture. This means that I am able to work well
with the clinic or the hospital’s environment. In the report, the hospital will
not have to worry about my turn-over risk as I can adapt, engage and I am
satisfied with my work environment and me being one of its staff. I agree
with this report because I do enjoy working at the clinic, meeting and
connecting with new people as well as gaining new experience. I would have liked
the report to stress the physical environment of the hospital, not just the
culture of the hospital but its social aspects too. The report could have also
given details on the nature of working in a hospital, like if a significant amount
of employees finds working there difficult or easy. The report given on the
hospital about its’ culture seems vague and incomplete, and so any other
information given could have helped better the understandings of someone who is
not familiar with the hospital at all. I am stressing on this point because I believe
many hospitals have similar cultural values described in the report, it would
be interesting to know what makes Sheldon Chumir stand out from other hospitals
like Foothill or Peter Lougheed Hospital.
Potential uses for
this data are many; first of all, this report enlightens me about my strength,
weakness, and gave a detailed understanding of each of the skills I possessed.
This report gives me the opportunity to improve myself regarding the area that
I need to improve on. Companies could use this as the first resume, especially
during the recruiting process or when hiring. Corporations could just call who
they feel are capable of the positions available, instead of spending so much
money on applications and interviews. If the companies know who they are
looking for through this kind of report, their expenses are then reduced with
the process of hiring. Companies could benefit from this report as they are
able to know their employees better, they are able to know and understand
employees’ weaknesses and strengths in order to assign positions or roles that
the workers can excel in.
